Mark Tamsett (producing under Mark Tammo and aka Tammo) grew up listening to a variety of music during his teens and avidly remembers taking two tape decks and overdubbing the top 40 each week to eliminate the DJ’s talking. Progressing from this commercial style (very quickly) he was exposed to the sounds of Soul, Funk & Electro through the whole of the excellent StreetSounds series and took an interest in early Hip Hop.
His Eureka moment came whilst at the Prestatyn Soul weekender in 1988, where he first heard the deep, oscillating and twisted sounds of Acid House. From this moment on he decided he’d like to collect, DJ and play House music and throughout the nineties secured a few residencies at monthly nights locally and in London too – playing at the Leisure Lounge, Plastic People, Maximus, Woody’s, Club Koo and festivals, such as Dub Dayz.
In the noughties he set up the legendary Raise nights with a few close friends -– residing at the Lockside Lounge in Camden – and still continues to put on the occasional Raise night. www.facebook.com/raiseproductions
Now his taste is more slanted across the Melodic Tech house & Techno (“anything with a good rolling groove and a bit of melody”) but still enjoys the sound of the OId Skool.
